Patents and Pending Patents
In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2021, we wanted to highlight the women inventors working for DHS, both federal employees and contractors. To date, DHS has a total of eight women inventors who hold six patents. In addition, more than 20 inventions by DHS women are currently awaiting approval by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).

Environmental Assessment of the Joint Unmanned Systems Testing in Collaborative Environment (Project JUSTICE)

DHS/S&T/PIA-038 Next Generation First Responder Apex Program
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate established the Next Generation First Responder (NGFR) Apex Program (Program), a research, development, testing, evaluation, (RDT&E) and standards program, adapting existing technologies, developing new capabilities, and working with the private sector to enhance capabilities for first responders across the nation. More than 60 individual RDT&E projects “align” to the NGFR Apex Program. Program activities include technology integration demonstrations and/or operational experimentations (OpEx) and the development of knowledge products, such as facts sheets and case studies. DHS S&T is conducting the NGFR Apex Program Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) because the Program involves the use of personally identifiable information (PII) as well as technologies that raise potential privacy concerns.

S&T CAB ISSI/CSSI Interoperability Testing Requirements and SDOC
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) continues its efforts to streamline the Supplier’s Declaration of Compliance (SDOC) and Summary Test Report (STR) templates in an effort to make P25 CAP documentation more useful to end users, as well as reduce the burden on manufacturers and P25 CAP recognized laboratories. DHS will now open a public comment period to review the P25 Compliance Assessment Bulletin (CAB) addressing Baseline Inter-RF Sub-System Interface and Console Sub-System Interface Interoperability Testing Requirements, as well as the latest version of the SDOC template.
