SAVER Project: Powered Ambulance Gurneys for First Responders

Emergency responders use powered ambulance gurneys (PAGs) to ensure safe patient transport and to ease the biomechanical load placed on personnel. Emergency medical services workers incur occupational injuries at a higher rate than the general worker population. Body motion injuries attributed to lifting, carrying, or transferring patients and/or equipment were the leading cause. PAGs incorporate an electric or electro-hydraulic lift mechanism to reduce the weight that must be borne by EMS workers when moving patients.
